Keyboard shortcuts

Driving the dashboard without the mouse, and the palette that reaches any box.

Press ? anywhere in the dashboard for the list. That dialog is drawn from the same table that binds the keys, so it is the one that is always right; this page is the tour.

The palette

The palette is Ctrl K (⌘ K on a Mac): one search over every box, machine, page and Settings section. It also opens from the Search… button at the top of the sidebar, and from the magnifier in the phone header.

  • A box is a menu of its own. Pick one and the list becomes its pages — overview, scanner (Rotom), load history, connectivity — and what can be done to it. Backspace on an empty search or Esc steps back out.
  • Or name the page straight away. box-12 rotom offers box-12's scanner page directly; box-12 reboot its reboot. The last word names the page or the action, the rest finds the box.
  • Actions open where they belong. Picking Execute for a box opens that box's page with the Execute dialog already up — or just opens the dialog, when that page is the one on screen.
  • "On this page" lists what the page has bound keys for, so the palette is also where to find a key you have forgotten.

Typing is matched against name, serial, model and group; every word has to match somewhere, and a name that starts with what was typed comes first.

Single keys

They work anywhere outside a text field, and never while a dialog or menu is open — Escape belongs to the dialog, letters to its fields.

In the Fleet

The table has a cursor: j and k move it, turning the page at either end, and once a row has it the arrow keys move it too. The device actions then act on that row, and:

  • Enter or o opens it, x ticks it, Shift A ticks the whole page.
  • Rename and Reboot take the selection when there is one, so Shift R with twelve boxes ticked reboots twelve boxes.
  • u starts a rollout for the selection.
  • Esc drops the cursor first and the selection only on the second press.

Reboot always asks

From a key, a row's menu, the device page or the Rotom page, a reboot opens a confirmation first, naming the boxes and marking the offline ones that will be skipped. Nothing reboots on a single key press.

Turning them off

Single-letter shortcuts get in the way of screen readers and voice control, where a stray letter is a stray command. The switch at the bottom of the ? dialog turns them off for that browser, and Ctrl K keeps working.

A viewer account gets the navigation and the palette, and none of the keys that change the fleet.
